What's the name of Oklahoma's pro basketball team?

The only team they have right now is the New Orleans Hornets who are playing in Oklahoma City because of hurricane Katrina. But normally they don't have a team.

What's the name of Oklahoma's pro basketball team?nba 2k ,nba teams

i'm pretty sure there isn't one, but i think the hornets are playing there because of the hurricane.
Officially Oklahoma doesn't have a pro basketball team. However, the New Orleans Hornets are playing in Oklahoma City at the Ford Center due to Hurricane Katrina. This is the last season that the Hornets will be playing in OKC. Next season they will be back in New Orleans. During their stay in OKC they have been refered to as the Oklahoma City/New Orleans Hornets. Currently a group of Oklahoma business men have been working to get a pro team into the city. Due to the overwhelming support the state has given to the Hornets citizens believe the state can sustain a pro team whether it be basketball or any other sport. They are seriously looking into a pro baseball team the last I heard.
New Orlean Hornet's they areplaying there until there satdium is ready for next season
The Hornets (Temporarily)
well the thing is that after Katrina the New Orleans Hornets were sent to Oklahoma to play there games since their stadium in New Orleans was not ready to play in. So now when you say Hornets, people that they are the "Oklahoma/ New Orleans Hornets."

If a pro basketball player has a vertical leap of about 30inches, what is his hangtime?usefunction V

It should be s = 4.9t^2

where s is displacement and t is time. 4.9 is derived from g/2

You have to put everything into standard units (inches to metres) then simply work out wat t is and multiply by 2 as he goes up then down.

If a pro basketball player has a vertical leap of about 30inches, what is his hangtime?usefunction V=48T^2?nba playoff bracket

I'm assuming V equals vertical inches

30=48t^2

30/48=t^2

t=sqrt(5/8)

t= approx .791 seconds

college

Which is more exciting to watch, College or pro basketball?nba live 2005 ,nba teams

College because they go out and play their hearts out for the name on their jersey not for the money. The players incollegeplay ball because they want to have fun and have a love for the game but NBA players have no love for the game the only reason they play is for the money. Some players in the NBA play for fun but 99.9% play for money.
I watch them both but I watch more NBA games.
college
i think pro basketball
pro its just on a whole different level of skill
Both, either during March Madness, or the playoffs.
pro...more skill, better athletes. There's a reason they get paid
college=duke ohio state unc
College basketball and only the nba playoffs.
DEFINITELY COLLEGE IT IS AWESOME TO WATCH. ESPECIALLY THE FIGHTING ILLINI WITH DEE BROWN! I ALWAYS GO TO THE FIGHTING ILLINI GAMES IT IS AWESOME!
College basketball is more exciting because in the tournaments its 1 loss and you're out
definitelycollegei mean you have so many great rivalry games like unc and duke, and in march you have the tournament were not like the nba were the #1 team always wins it's the underdogs, also yourcollegeteam you feel like that's your team they represent youcollegeis superior.

Which is more entertaining, college(March Madness)or pro basketball(playoffs)?

March Madness.

The passion from opening tipoff to the bitter end in a win or go home game every time you take the floor cannot be beat by the slow methodical shifts in strategy from game to game in a series.

It is only entertaining if the Lakers are in the playoffs, other than that its just a waste of entertainment.
March Madness. Win or Go Home, not three best of 7 series that drag out over at least a month and a half.
march madness and its not even close. who really wants to see a team play against the same team for a maximum of 7 times? in college, anything can happen unlike the nba when you know the spurs are going to win anyway. crazycollegekids and fans, so much genuine emotion and school pride. its awesome and dont forget dick vitale babyyyyy!!!
Hands down, March Madness. Especially when you factor in the Seniors. Could be their last games EVER. You can't beat the excitement.
no contest March Madness with the passion the cinderalla stories, the great rivalries.
March Madness....the most exciting tournament of ANY sport!
ONE AND DONE! VIVA LE MARCH MADDNESS!!!!

Is there any truth to the saying "First team to 100 wins" in pro basketball?

"First team to 100 wins" is a oft-said saying in basketball. Is there any truth to it statistically?

Is there any truth to the saying "First team to 100 wins" in pro basketball?nba lottery

It is a fairly good rule of thumb. In a lot of games, the score does not get to 100 points, usually it stays in the 90's. So, if a team does get there, and gets there for first, its usually towards the very end of the 4th quarter. Of course, the exception is usually the Phoenix Suns, who can score 100 points at will, but can also give up over 100 points because they don't play defense.

Is there any truth to the saying "First team to 100 wins" in pro basketball?nba champs ,nba teams

No, not if the other team is also high-scoring.

I am i na similar position and i practice alot and im 13 u should probably try and find a good team where they teach u how to play right where like i play for an aau team coached by a former boston celtic and you maybe should try to find a trainer sorta guy that teaches you once a week to practice fundamentals and i think it helps to find a simple weight training work out from like a woork out person with just simple 5 pound weights and stuff

HOpe to play u in the nba some day!
A good work ethic, smarts, talent, athleticism and a good agent.
hey man, focus on high school. because ur small u have to control the ball real well. do ball handling drills in ur garage or attic with a fan. try some new things make it fun. making the NBA is almost impossible. Im 13 as well but im 6-3, 170lbs. alot of passing drills. do crossovers and jukes to make ur self better. do latters and running so ur quick. u need to jump well too. make ur high school team. be a star. get to play D-1. Be a top 60 D-1 player. and that doesnt mean ur in the NBa cuz only about 15-20 of those guys actually get signed. keep working and dreaming.
u should try asking a PRO basketball player. instead of a bunch of internet nerds

How Can I Become A Pro Or College Basketball Statistician??

I've been a College Statistician for about 5 years now. I started working as a football statistician for a local high school about 8 years ago. After meeting all the local media, one of them recommended that I check out the local university. The person you need to talk to is usually the head of media relations or sports relations. They can tell you if the school has a stat crew or any openings in that ball park. At UTEP we have a stat crew of 6-7 for mens basketball and football. We also have a smaller crew for Womens BBAll and one or two that cover other sports. Call your local university media relations office and ask for info. Good luck.

And to previous poster....at the NCAA level it pays...I'm paid per game, and given comp tickets (and they are pretty good tickets too). You get the BEST seat in the house (courtside or pressbox) and they feed you. Its fun...and if its your ball, a good way to meet a lot of people -- players, coaches, media...

I need a real basketball pro to answer this question?

BEATING DEFENSIVE PRESSURE

What do you do when a defender gets up in your grill, and pressures you with extreme body-to-body pressure? He's frustrating you, taking you out of your rhythm and ability to square up to the goal. For some players, their best basketball moves simply won't work in this situation. So most players just pass, or dribble backwards, or even worse back up on their heels and lose their ability to attack. The result is often a turnover. And this is exactly what the defense wants.

But, as Coach Torbett says, you must not show fear. “You must meet pressure with aggression.” If the defense plays you this tight, you must make him pay by driving past him, straight to the goal. The question is, how do you do it? How do you drive past a defender who won't even allow you to get into the Triple Attack Position?

I need a real basketball pro to answer this question?nba free agents

The answer lies in the Quadruple Attack Position. Your coach may not know this. That means there are 4 things you can do with the ball. The 4th thing = fake and that's the key. Shot, pass and foot fakes.

Your defender is playing ultra aggressive. Dribbling backwards does nothing except tell him that what he is doing is bothering you. You don't want to dribble EVER until he makes the first move. Make a good pass fake and watch his reaction. That means no matter how much the pressure, you MUST be facing him. If he moves a step or even leans in the direction of the fake. you dribble by him on the opposite side. Use what I call an 'explode' dribble by getting the ball out on the floor. You can take one stride legally when you dribble which is around 5-6'. Your dribble must be out past your stride by another 5-6'. Practice this. I have my students start about six feet out beyond the 3-pt arc. From there they are expected to get to the basket in just one dribble and lay it in. At first they look at me like I'm crazy. But with a little practice they find they can do it.

A good fake will at least get him off balance, then one dribble gets you past him and you go to the hole or pull up and shoot the 'J'.

You must practice your fakes (use a full length mirror for this) until they look realistic. Then he won't get close to you again. By the way, not wearing deodorant also helps you create the space you need.

I need a real basketball pro to answer this question?nba logo ,nba teams

when u are already using your driblle get low and protect the ball then relax your body because then the defnse relaxes then use a burst of speed to turn the corner. then when u go by them switch hands so they dont reach from behind when u attack the baskets stay under controll because u may have open teamates under the basket rady to finish with a bucket and if there good a dunk. in the triple threat position if they are forcing you in a direction go the other way and attack their lead foot because then they must turn before they can even think to run with you. use a lot of jab steps and use differnt basketball tapes rick torbert is an idiot i should say that i just dont like his methods. listen to me i played varsity as a freshman last year
That is kind of a vague question as no position or situation is specifically described.

Basketball is a team game, so there are so many options that a book could be written about this one scenario.

First, the best way to avoid this situation is never to get in this situation.

Second, playing team offense, a pass is a good way out of this situation and then run around using screens trying to rub this guy off if you want the ball back.

Second (part II), playing team offense, use a screen to rub this guy off of you.

Third, shoot a jumper over the defender and hit nothing but net. This will get his attention. I mean is the defender Superman or something.

Fourth, as the defender is so close, it should be somewhat easy for a decent basketball player to get by the defender as the offensive player can go either left or right and the defender never knows what the offensive player is going to do.

So, some times you will just have to pull up and take a jumper over the defender. If you can't do this, then either you are playing the best defender around or you haven't spent enough time practicing your personal game.

Next option is blow past this guy either to his left or his right at full speed, stop on a dime, and pull up for a mid range jumper.

Next option is blow past this guy either to his left or his right at full speed and go all of the way to the hole where you have to be good enough to get the ball in the hole over maybe some 6' 11" defender who is moving over to help out.

As part of the first option which is just to shoot the ball, I personally always liked the behind the back dribble to get the ball on whichever side you want to shoot from and shoot either a straight up jumper or a fade away jumper, but I only had to do this once or twice in a game situation.

The best shot I ever saw from the perimeter was by an extremely pressured and closely guarded Brian Winters shooting a behind the back dribble fade away three point jumper several feet behind the three point line to hit nothing but net at the buzzer to send the game either into the first overtime or second overtime where Milwaukee eventually lost in three overtimes.

Hey, if you can't do stuff like this, then you haven't done enough individual practice daily, every day for years.

Yeah, if you are the average player who does not do a lot of individual practice, then you are not going to be able to handle a situation like this.

Basketball is a team game and there are things like screens or passing the ball to one of the other 4 players on the team who will have a better opportunity to score.

I mean if you are playing the best defensive player around, you will have to do a lot of work and moving without the ball and using screens from teammates if you want to be the one who scores.

But, who says you have to be the one who tries to take every shot?

Okay, if you are playing 1 on 1, then that is different, and blowing by the guy to either take a mid range jump shot or going all of the way to the hole should be done fairly easily.

It takes a lot of individual practice time to improve a game to handle the "extreme pressure" situations, but it can be done.

Anything can be done and overcome, but it requires a lot of skill which can only be obtained from a ton of individual practice.

I do agree that you cannot and should not show fear particularly if you have practiced enough of your individual skills. Even not showing fear but having fear inside is as bad as showing fear. You have to be good enough to beat any defender, or otherwise, why even bother to walk onto a basketball court.

I definitely do not agree that you must meet pressure with aggression unless you call putting the ball in the hole aggression. You beat anything in basketball the easiest way by scoring.

Also, you do not always meet pressure with aggression. Like on a full court press, if that is ever played anymore since "The Wizard of Westwood" retired and before the advent of the "Hack a Shaq" defense, the best way to beat the pressure of a full court defense was to dribble into the strength of the full court defense in order to draw a double team as you want to attract the defensive double team in kind of a "Venus Fly Trap" manner, but the offensive player must pass to the open offensive teammate just a fraction of a second before the double team meets the original offensive player. I would call this beating pressure by suckering the defense.

Yes, in football, you must meet pressure with aggression, but not in basketball as there are so many ways to beat pressure through both poise and teamwork.
You have to sometimes lower your shoulder if the D is playing that tight. If your best move isn't working, then you haven't practiced it good enough. The truth is, there is no miracle thing to break past the pressure. It is a matter of instinct and agression.
You copied that straight from the betterbasketball website. I bet Rick Barry knows the answer. :)
first off if he is up at you face and pressuring you

he probably is grabbing and pushing you too,

you need to create space first, if they get

physical you need to use your legs, hips, elbows

to knock them off, usually as Charles Barkley

says at the beginning of the game, just give them

a real good hard elbow to the chest so they

keep away from you.

no if he is not grabbing or pushing, cross-over

or miss direction plays work well to get the

space, fake left, go right, or even if you are

shooting, double pump to get them off their feet.

Use their aggression against them.

as far as often the result being turnover, not true,

if you have good ball handling skills, and are

a physically strong player, you can dribble inside

and draw the fouls and make the shots. So do

weights, and work on your ball handling skills.

but my advice is knock them off on their behind

at the beginning so they keep their distance.

it really is about who control the game, if you

let him ride you, its all over.
This may sound easier said than done, it is all about a good first step.

Pass the ball up and demand for it back.

Receive the ball with both hands, and secure it.

Don't dribble until you gather yourself from receiving the ball and is facing the net and know where all other 8 players are.

As long as you still have your first step, you should be able to get by any tight coverage if you are a decent player.

The defense may back off because you never dribble yet to prevent this, if this is the case, do a fake shot attempt, to suck him in, then either go up to draw a foul or go by him.

You need to have hand just like George Costanza said so in Seinfeld (Although his situation is for breaking up). As long as you have not start dribbling, you have hand as the offensive player.
its kinda complicated but u gotta make him think that you are at his mercy

Play it like his defense is overwhelming and then just give a quick jab step

if the defender is that much up on you then he will go for it every time and u will make him look like a fool
Ask someone to give you a screen then drive then pop back out to the screener and let im shoot. But if you're a Gilbert Arenas, shoot behind the screener or do a running jumper or fade away shot.
Well if your a righty make sure you get low and bend ur knees then give the defender a little jab step, if he doesnt back off for righties take your left foot cross the opponets body then make sure you re left foot is in front of his left foot, which is in defense position.then turn your shouders in front of the defender and burst..once your shoulder is front of thedefender he cannot get back in position and the only way to stop you is to foul you....probally going to need to read it more then once but effective.
Pick and Roll and Ball screen is your best bet. Also, they are at the risk of getting into foul trouble if they are playing airtight. So try to initiate the contact as your last resort, but don't force it, or it will be an offensive foul.

You have to have a killer crossover if you wanna take that kind of defender one - on - one.

Like I said before, pick and roll is the best option. It worked for Malone and Stockton, and works for most teams.

triple attack is kind of a complicated strategy in pressure defense, specially man 2 man. but coupled with a pick, it can work.
yeah coach is right "you must meet presure with agression" soooo tackle.I I mean "stick" the mutha fuka with your shoulders in his chest.it works for me and i get to the basket easy.go Rockets!!!
Try to get the ball in a triple threat position. Face him. Try a fake step to create seperation. If you sell it you got him. As he recovers you can do any number of things. Fake a shot to get him to reach and then blow by him. If you are a confident shooter with the skill enough to shoot with a hand in you face, that seperation can get you the look. But the idea is to get him in a recovery position. This should be pretty easy to do since he is over playing you anyway. The harder and closer he is playing you the the faster and more dramatic his reactions have to be to keep up. And this is the advantage. I hope this helps. It should be alot easier to show you though. Remember: They can't stop me EVER. No Way, No How. This is my House!!!
whatever u do dont let him get in ur head. make him fear u. dont be intimidated. always keep the defender guessing. its very simple, if the defender is all up in ur grill and playing u tight, pull a pump fake and drive on him. dont be afraid to be physical. if he's playing loose, fake a drive and pull for the J. u can always use ur body to catch the ball (watch Kobe). once u do, bring the ball and low and be in the triple attack position. there are a wide array of moves to do: jab steps, pump fakes, crossovers. Use ur STRENGTH to drive. there are many moves: power hops, spins, etc. just watch videos of great players: michael jordan, kobe, dwyane wade, etc. good luck.
Get low protect the ball stick your head out and work on your strength and speed.

Where can I get scores/results on Pro basketball in Finland?hockey

The statistics service of Finnish basketball association can be found from http://213.197.180.56/fba/ , there's a little language link in the upper right corner of the page (ENG FIN) if you don't understand Finnish.

To find CJ Vick, you have to choose men's 1st division also from the upper right corner (a drop down menu), and then choose "players" from the left hand side. He doesn't seem to be doing too well...

PS: as a comment for the other answerers: this one isn't that easy to find if you can't use Finnish keywords in your search, and yes, Finns play also soccer. Doesn't mean we couldn't play other games too.

Would you watch pro basketball if there were no black players?

What does the color of an athlete have to do with anything? If you like the sport why wouldnt you watch it? Unless you are talking about black players not being permitted to play b/c of their color....then I would deff. not watch it.

Would you watch pro basketball if there were no black players?sporting goods

Of course.

Would you watch pro basketball if there were no black players?nba hall of fame ,nba teams

No. I do not consider basketball a sport 'per se'. My definition of a sport is when an athlete does not have an advantage over another because of a physical characteristic, ie - height.

My opinion of course :)
Well first chances of that are slim to none, second I don't watch basketball no matter what color the players are. I would consider watching more sports if all athletes were NAKED.
Ofcourse, but why would all the black people stop playing? That doesn't make sense now does it.
when i watch a basketball game i'm watching the ball not the color of the person with the ball.
No, I would not! If you exclude any segment that prohibits the game from providing the highest level of competition and entertainment value that it is a worthless product not worthy of my time.

No VC, Kobe, Shaq, Gilbert, Pierce, Duncan, Stat, etc etc etc... sounds like you would be watching a jump shooting contest. May as well format every game like the All-Star game 3 point contest.

Any sport that would eliminate a specific race from participating would fail pitifully. The public would not allow it and the Government would intervene prior to anything ever being implemented.
no. there wouldnt be anyone exciting except nash and kidd. what would the NBA be like without carter lebron wade stoudamire shaq arenas duncan KG marion kobe paul and every other great player
Thats a racist question.
Only if it still had the best possible players in the game, who just all happened to be white, European, Chinese or other.

If it was just because of a racist thing, then definately not, why would you want to see anything but the best possible?
as long as the game is good. I would watch don't matter who plays. Colour does not matter
yeah but it would be totally different.

Is there any pro basketball pick em' games?

i wasn't able to find one, on yahoo. Why is that?

Is there any pro basketball pick em' games?basketball players

No, not on Yahoo!, but I agree it would be nice to have one. It would be too hard because there are games played almost every night so it would be too hard to have everyone be available to make their picks on short notice. I was thinking they could pick a few of the key games from the week and have people pick from those games, but that is unlikely to happen.

How many square feet is a half court of a pro basketball court?

I have around 500 10x10 patio stones and trying to figure out if I have enough to make a half court or at least till the top of thecollegekey with another 3 ft for shooting. What is the square footage of a half court basketball court?

How many square feet is a half court of a pro basketball court?nba statistics

Acollegeand pro court is 94'x50', which would be 4700 square feet. A full half court, then, would be 47'x50', or 2350 square feet.

Your 10"x10" patio stones, then, will not even come close to making a half court. If you go the full 50' wide, it will take 60 stones for each row across the court. Your 500 stones will make a court 50' wide by about 8' deep - you won't even be close to the free throw line. And 10"x10" patio blocks will probably result in many ankle injuries - I wouldn't particularly recommend this.

If the blocks are 10'x10' (ten foot by ten foot) rather than 10"x10" (ten inches by ten inches), I'm first trying to figure out how you are moving them. But at 10'x10', 500 stones would give you a full sized court, with a little space on the endlines.

How many square feet is a half court of a pro basketball court?nba store ,nba teams

Since a pro court is 4700 sq. ft. , a half pro court is 2350 sq. ft.

Why do people believe an "under 6-foot" pro basketball league wouldn't sell?

I absolutely believe it would. Height is a major factor in basketball, and there are many good players out there at a disadvantage because they're not over 6-foot. It would sell to regular-sized people who see a commonality with athletes at their own height playing basketball professionally. Who knows, the competition in the under-6 foot leagues might even be fierce because every player would be a good ball handler.

I think from elementary tocollegelevel, there should be short and tall leagues...it would allow everyone to enjoy the sport of basketball fairly. It's about the talent, not the height.

Why do people believe an "under 6-foot" pro basketball league wouldn't sell?nba season

The WNBA isn't doing all that well commercially speaking, and they're mostly under six feet and usually play better fundamental ball than the men. So that supports the argument that it wouldn't sell.

But I do agree with your point. My son LOVES playing basketball and it's highly unlikely that he'll grow beyond six feet. From going to all his school, recreation and AAU games, I agree that height is too much of a factor; and I see many tall kids playing that don't love the game the way some of the smaller kids do.

Why do people believe an "under 6-foot" pro basketball league wouldn't sell?nfl ,nba teams

that's true...but i think even short people can play it very well. shoter people still can compete when their speed coz i believe shorter people is much more faster than tall people... Report It

personaly i think it would sell, but what would sell even more would be a under 4-foot basketball league just because it would be entertaining to watch
for the same reason the paralympics doesnt..basketball was just a flawed designed, accept it..some middle class white canadian came up with it and frankly, it shouldnt be as widely played as it is
Who will pay money to watch it ??? 1% of basketball fans ???

May be we should open a "physically weak people" pro hockey league ??

It is a bad idea ...
Do you hear what you are saying? Wake up and smell the pankakes.
A short basketball league would make the kids feel bad. Also, it would be hard to find centers in the short league, and it would be hard to find point guards in the tall league. Basketball was meant to have a variety of heights. Also, no one wants to watch a bunch of short people playcollegebasketball, its not as fun to watch.
Almost no "new" idea ever sells until someone implements it and proves the naysayers wrong. People are usually only interested in proven niche markets, not exploration. Make it happen, make it succeed and prepare for the competition because they will follow once they see it work.
There actually was a pro league similar to what you are saying abotu 15 years ago called the World Basketball League, where the height limit was 6-6. They had some other quirky rules too, like an even shorter shot clock, and some other stuff. It lasted about 3 years.

The only reason I remember it is because Memphis had a team and actually gave John Starks enough PT to jump into the NBA, which he obviously did.

But an under 6-ft league would be horrible, because practically nobody could dunk, which is a big reason women's basketball isn't any more popular than it is.
It would never work for several reasons. First of all, it is too much of a gimmick. Second of all, people want to see the best players in the world play against each other, regardless of height, nationality, whatever. The best players under 6 feet will always play in the NBA and other top professional leagues.

If people wanted to see under 6 feet leagues, they would be flocking to local parks and YMCAs to watch those pickup games.
Because it would be impossible for there to be only players under 6 ft.
Thst is because those people are less likly to get a shot at the hoop.

Do you think college basketball players should be allowed to go pro early?

Do you think thatcollegebasketball players should be allowed to give up their education and go to the NBA early?

Do you thinkcollegebasketball players should be allowed to go pro early?sports

Every player should be able to go once they have the abilities to play in this league

Guys like LeBron where 20 point players from the get go and Dwight Howard got 10 rebounds right away.

If you force them to go tocollegeor even as one person suggested to go for an unrealistic 3 or 4 years you deprive them of years of NBA service for all time records, are guilty of age descrimination, and could even limit their progress once they get too good for thecollegegame and are left unchallenged.

You can still get acollegedegree and play in the NBA as MANY players have done

I don't like the rule now that after declaring and the draft you losecollegeeligibility. What happened to the old days when guys like Bird got drafted, played 1 more year of college, and then went to their drafted team?

not hurting anybody and it's the leastcollegesports could do since they are making their living off of unpaid workers

Do you thinkcollegebasketball players should be allowed to go pro early?sporting goods ,nba teams

EDucation is so important!!! What happens if they hurt their knee or something early in their career and can not play anymore? If they had their degree they have something to fall back on. Without it, they might be flipping burgers. I understand what Bigbo32oz is saying, but NOBODY CAN EVER TAKE AWAY A DEGREE! Once you have it, the oppertunities are endless.

If they do get drafted, can't they do school in the off season?
yes
I think they should be able to leave after their junior year, like football. I wouldnt mind if they had to stay for all four years, but thats just not going to happen, some are ready after 3 years. I'm glad they cant come straight outta high school at least.
Yes. Basketball is not as physical as football. Basketball is mostle raw talent and brains. You can have raw talent in highschool, and learn the game your first year in the NBA. Just look at Lebron James. Then take a look at Maurice Clarett. Total difference.
Yes, as long as the NCAA has strict rules aroundcollegeplayers earning money andcollegeeligibility.

It doesn't seem right to hold back a talented ball player, considering he could have a career-ending injury during hiscollegeyears.

I think there needs to be something in between, like some sort of family assistance, marketing money, booster money, etc. to the players but controlled by the NCAA to keep the playing field fair. This would help keep kids incollegeand then could allow the NBA to force stricter requirements to play in the NBA, such as minimum of 2-yearscollegeexperience or Bachelors degree. This would be very similar to how we as individuals perceive college. We invest in our education in order to make more money.

The only difference, the schools and NCAA are making a butt load of money off the talent and the kids should be paid heavily for their marketability, i.e. jerseys, etc.
i think that every player should have one year ofcollegebasketball and then do whatever they want after that, i think thecollegelevel helps out so many people become better players anyway
We go tocollegeto better our opportunities in life. Through ourcollegeexperience, we determine and discover what we want to do with our life. There are not many jobs paying close to what a professional athlete gets the first year, degree or not. Million dollar a year contract versus 30-40,000 a year straight out of school.... not really a tough decision. But think of this, schools want the best recruits, right? It's not to educate the best basketball players, it's so the school can have a successful athletic program. The more successful the program, the more revenue coming into the school. Any way you slice it, it's a business decision for the school to recruit certain players, what's wrong with a business decision made by a student/player for their well being?
One names rings a bell: LEBRON JAMES..lol
yes, i think they should have the option of doing it. If a player is good enough to leave school early than that should be his decision. Some kids have a very good reason for jumping to the pros early. Take Larry Hughes for example. His brother was on dialysis and his family was having a hard time paying for it. He leftcollegeafter his freshman year, and I think anyone would be a fool to condemn him for doing so.

NBA Draft - Biggest First Round Reach?

The mock drafts are out. We are getting excited about the 2007 NBA Draft. For ten points and global bragging rights, who do you think will be the biggest surprise to go in the first round? For the tie breaker, is there someone that we never considered that will make it in the second round?

NBA Draft - Biggest First Round Reach?2006 nba draft

The biggest 1st round reach will be Yi Jianlian. Has played no NBA orcollegeplayers %26amp; the only chinese player to ever have an impact is Yao Ming. There have been others that have had height %26amp; size %26amp; have done absolutely nothing.

The 2nd rounder is Kammron Taylor the point guard from the University of Wisconsin. I've seen him for 4 years in the big ten %26amp; he was the engine that made Wisconsin go Tucker got all the acolades but its Taylors decision making that made that team a good team. He will go late 2nd round %26amp; be a good NBA player!!!

demetrius nichols
f
I think the biggest reach will be D.J. Strawberry. I think he's a mid-2nd rounder who could sneak into the first round
Greg Oden, Kevin Durant
I think Marc Gasol will go in the first round, as will Derrick Byars from Vandy. I'm not sure if you're asking who'll be the biggest surprise once they're in the league, or who will be the most surprising to see drafted in the 1st, but I think both of these guys will be steals when they're selected.

Come to RootZoo for smart NBA draft talk. Head on over and ask this question there, you'll get the best answers.
Possibly Yi because you just never know how international players will cope with the association

C- Amare Stoudamire- tough choice here because there are few true centers in the game anymore...but Amare is so explosive.
C Yao Ming - Tall and starting to score

SF Tyrus Thomas - Young and athletic. When he gets basketball skills he'll be sweet

PG Chris Paul - Sweet passer

Also they r all young

Has anyone bought the game "Draft Day Sports: Pro Basketball"?

It's a game where you are a general manager or you can be a coach. But mostly manager. It is $34.95. You can change the teams' names, logos, jerseys, courts %26amp; more. You can create a league of your own. You can make your own roster. It's a solid game. You can trade players, sign free agents, and draft players. You can go to the commissioners office and trade people around %26amp; do more stuff. Its just that its $34.95. I totally understand the price. It's a good game and I think it should cost what it costs. It's just that I have a check coming in this middle of September. It will be more than $46. I just dont know if I should buy the game or not. I dont know if its really worth it. So I would like some opinions on people who have the full version. Or at least played the game.

Are africans-american better athletes? how come pro-football 70% black. pro-basketball 80% black.?soccer ,nba teams

It's all in the genetics. They had to adapt to their inviroment, just like all other races. Their invirment in Africa requires them to be fast to survive like their skin is dark to protect them from the harsh sun. Report It

No. Black people are racist. If one gets the position. There less chnaces for those who are not black.
Thats only 2 sports bud. If you look at every professional sport in America you will see that African Americans make up about 8 percent of professional athletes.
Yes we need to start punishing them and putting less skilled players like we do in the work force.
they could be? research it idk..
It may be true that there are many blacks in certain sports, although you can not deny the fact that there are still Caucasian dominated sports out there. (I.E. Hockey), which is a largely athletic and contact style sport. It may or may not be genetics, science has not come up with a solid theory that supports that claim. Another possible hypothesis is that African American culture diversely affects there views on professional sportsmanship, compared to Americans, or Caucasians in general. I hope I have accurately satisfied your curiosity on this subject.
Ever hear of a sportscaster named "Jimmy the Greek?" He answered this question perfectly many decades ago. He got fired for his answer (genetics, going back to the time of slavery when only the biggest %26amp; strongest were bred), but it was the truth.
Well they may be think about the conditions they have to live in under Africa, it makes sense that their bodies would be strong, they need strong athletic bodies to survive as Africa is hard on the body, Europe on the other hand is not so harsh, only winter wise and the reason eruopeans used to so stocky at first was to survive those winters but now we too are getting taller b/c of certain diets etc. Like the Danish have the tallest women, b/c their diet is based on dairy products and they are mostly all lactose intolerant etc. you get my drift we're all built for our environments or adapt to them
well that is something to think about
Yeahy, but in hockey there are not that many. It doesn't matter how many there are it matters how good they are. THAT THE TRUTH THE REAL TRUTH
I am a white basketball player and the truth is

Yes blacks are indeed superior "fast" athletes as they have a higher ratio of fast twitch 2 slow twitch muscles thir are exceptions.

But aint it just a ***** lol
So should there be a quota as to limit the number of blacks on a single team? Like affermitive action for sports to level the playing field so whites can play too?
Lol, Pro Basketball is more like 95% black, not 80%.
Not too many in Table Tennis, Golf, Badminton, Ice Speed racing, Gymnastics, Swimming, etc...
They are much better at hockey, its not that popular. I heard they are also good at swimming but you didnt list that.
Better than who? Whites? NO!
They are built differently.

Different bone and muscle structures then whites are.

For this reason, there are more of them as pro players.

It's all genetics.
As you can see from my picture I am black, and the truth is we are not better athletes!!!

The reason you see what you do in the pro's is because sadly many blacks see the pro's as some kind of lotto ticket. So instead of studying, they spend time working on their jump shot when they should be hitting the books.

Inner city youth sadly idolize athletes. Doctors, lawyers, and the such are not seen as "real" black people.

That's why you see what you see in the NFL, and the NBA, on the other hand why don't you see blacks playing Hockey, or baseball? Because those games aren't seen as "street" to ni**a's with hoop dreams!!
Blacks are also really really good at running. Not all, i mean, you cant say that every single black person is a good athlete. But for some reason they tend to be better.

And no, they shouldnt have seperate leagues like that one jerk said. I mean, theres not a limit of how many exceptional players on a team,.. why limit by color. Thats horrible.
Maybe football and basketball are only 2 sports, but those are the sports that require the most. Besides hockey. They are VERY fast and strong. They excel at alot of sports.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fact that thier ancestors were always running and doing physical work because they lived in the jungle (Africa). And it is just natural genetics.
Ur asking like u don't watch TV.. Some people are better at things than others.. don't make this a race issue.. People lean toward what they know and what they are good at...

And no African-Americans are not racist
No.

At one point basketball dominated by Irish.

Latinos are taking over in Baseball.

Through out history sports have always been dominated by the same people. Those who are financially oppressed and see that sports can be a very fast way to get fame, a free education or riches beyond anything a doctor, lawyer or teacher would ever see.

And why these sports? Again, financial. You need very little money to play basketball, football, baseball or have 'races' in your neighborhood everyday. Not everyone has a pool or tennis courts, or can afford all the equipment for hockey, golf, badminton.
yes i think they are stronger and it diffentelly proves it when they are more of on sports yes i think i read some where they are stronger and tire less then we do

How do you bounce a basketball up like a pro when it has already stopped bouncing? I need help plzzz

Just tap the top, as if you were dribbling, but put extra pressure, do it a little stronger. it will bounce back up, and depending how hard you hit it it might not bounce up too high, so once it leaves the ground hit again, a little less harder and continue to dribble.

How long do pro basketball games usually last?

How long do pro basketball games usually last?nba power rankings

2 hours at 20 minutes.

2.5 hours is the time I allocate to watching a full, televised professional basketball game, including the 10 minutes before tipoff and some post-game interviews.

A slow game (with lots of interruptions, fouls, timeouts, etc.) in addition to potential overtime can push it to or above 2.5 hours, but this is rare. If you allocate 2.5 hours, you will be fine!

How long do pro basketball games usually last?nba ballers ,nba teams

like 2-3 hours, but if theres over time then it's probably 3 hours and 30 mins
depends, without overtime of 5 minutes, it's 2.5 hr. If there's overtime, with it's commercial breaks it's a little above 2.5 hrs. more like 2 hr. 45 min.
It's 4 quarters of 12 minutes. Overall 48 minutes. Sometimes thing get delayed or people get hurt go it should originally be 2 hours 30 minutes but if stuff goes wrong like i just mentioned..it will be between 2 - 3 hours. Unless they go into overtime which is 5 minutes per 1. 53 minutes for 1 full game and one full overtime which sometimes happens alot. So you ask where all the hours come from in a short period of basketball time?... it's the fouls and the timeouts and the end of the quarters and half time which take out lots and lots of time.
around 2 hours
About two, two and a half hours....interesting question
Usually, a little over two hours, but if it is televised, more like two and a half for the TV timeouts.
48 minutes -- four 12-minute quarters. Overtimes are 5 minutes apiece.
around 2 hours

half time is like a half an hour long

and quarter breaks r like 2 minutes long

and they also over exxaggerate on the 20 second timeouts

they give them like 40 seconds on the 20 second timeouts because they have to do commercials

so it all rounds up to about 2 hours

2.5 hours tops

Will i get one billons dollar a year if i play pro basketball ?

Will i get one billons dollar a year if i play pro basketball ?nba sports ,nba teams

If you're going for a billion dollars, rely on endorsements. In the NBA, your maximum salary is $12 million.. so $988 million to go..

By the way, LeBron, the highest endorsed player, makes $25 million off endorsements.

Good luck!
Never.

Who wants to play pro basketball? I think anyone who's ever played in a game having laced those sneakers and hitting the hardwood. It's every little basketball fan's dream to one day play on the biggest stage, in front of millions, and who hasn't imagined themselves playing for their favorite team? Who hasn't imagined themselves making that last second shot to win the game? I say to all those that haven't...you're probably not a true fan of the game. Also those contracts are ginormous who can resist?

When did pro basketball start what year and was there any superstars?

When did pro basketball start what year and was there any superstars?nba street v3

Pro basketball started in 1898, however, there were no superstar players until the 1920's. I'll name a few:

Joe Lapchick

Dutch Denhert

Nat Holman

John Beckman

Charles "Tarzan" Cooper

These weren't the first official superstars but they were the superstars of that time.

haha...basketball was definitely not invented in 1946.

In early December 1891, Dr. James Naismith,[1] a Canadian physical education student and instructor at YMCA Training School[2] (today, Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, sought a vigorous indoor game to keep his students occupied and at proper levels of fitness during the long New England winters to keep the students in shape.

The first official game was played in the YMCA gymnasium on January 20, 1892 with nine players and the game ended at 1-0 and the shot was made from 25 feet

Women's basketball began in 1892.

The first pro league, the National Basketball League, was formed in 1898 to protect players from exploitation and to promote a less rough game
basketball was invented in 1946, the ABA was founded by Murice Loofer in 1957. The ABA later combined with NBA to form the league today in late 60's.

Not really sure about superstars, doubt they even have that word back then, but you can probably search who is the 1st player named to the 50 greatest player.
Right after WW2, the pro league started. Mikan was the first pro superstar coz' before him the league was not as recognized yet as baseball. He was the white 7 feet behemoth, unstoppable until the very first black superstar, Russell, came %26amp; dominated basketball for a decade. If ya can buy a cd NBA at 50, it will prove what I mean. You'd enjoy it to thae max

Good times bro
The NBL (National basketball league) started in 1937, and continued until the NBA began in 1947. There were also leagues in Pennsylvania in 1910s and 20s, but as far as superstars, there's no names I can recognize as well as Mikan's.
the NBA started in 1946. the first superstar was george mikan of the minneapolis lakers. he dominated the 1950s.
George Mikan, first great Center, he played for the Lakers from the inception of the NBA in 1946 to the mid 50's i believe
